Welcome to the Autism
Society of
Acadiana. We are a support organization for everyone in
Acadiana
affected by autism. If you are a parent, grandparent, teacher,
neighbor,
friend, service provider, doctor, psychologist, speech-language
pathologist, or
have any connection to the autism community, we are the support group
for you.
ASAC was founded in 1985. It provides places to meet, get information,
and
share experience with real people affected by autism.
ASAC, which is a chapter of the Autism Society of America,
is also a certified non-profit 501(c)(3) agency. This means ASAC can
raise funds for
the benefit of its local members and the autism community and can
verify
receipts of charitable donations over $250 for deduction under federal
income tax
law.
ASAC holds monthly support meetings in four Acadinana parishes
where you can
feel at ease while you learn and share information about autism. We
have
socials throughout the year where your family can relax and have fun
with other
families. Social events have included swimming fun days, picnics in the
park,
family bowling fun night, and many other activities that you and your
family
can enjoy. We have a major fund raiser annually --- the WALK FOR HOPE
--- which
has become one of Acadiana's largest one mile fun walks. The day also
includes
food, music, dancing, prizes, and activities for the whole family. The
Walk and
our other fund raisers are to help our members, families, and persons
diagnosed
with an autism spectrum disorder to enjoy a better quality of life.
ASAC is governed by a Board of Directors that welcomes input about
how best
to serve you and the autism community – individuals, families,
professionals,
educators, friends, and neighbors. The ASAC Board meets quarterly and
welcomes
attendance by members of the organization.
Please feel free to browse our web site and come
to our
support meetings. We would love to see you there. To get in touch with
us, just
send us an email.
We hope and believe you will be glad you found ASAC.
